Luke 12:
11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer , or what ye shall say :
12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say .
It is good to read and meditate on God’s Word, the Bible. When we spend time with God in prayerful reading of His Words, He reveals things in real-time conversation with us that can help us know Him and understand His heart.
Yet, many of us spend hours, days, years of our lives reading the Bible, like law students reading and studying a law book, in order to somehow teach ourselves how to defend our faith in Jesus. We justify this “work” by telling ourselves and others that we are preparing ourselves for when we are, in fact, called to defend our faith before others.
When we read the above quote from Jesus Himself, we see that no amount of preparation for the interrogation is necessary or at all profitable. We cannot defend our faith with any kind of learning that doesn’t come from the Holy Spirit Himself, who promises to be there in real-time, when we need Him, based on the intimate relationship we have sought with our Father. Jesus calls us to be witnesses in the courtrooms of our lives, not defendants.
